“You’re all music students, right?” violinist Sarah Neufeld quipped to the Red Room’s Thursday night crowd, which could have fit comfortably in a Red Line car. Neufeld, who previously backed up the baroque bombast of Arcade Fire and Bell Orchestre, recently released “The Ridge,” her second solo LP. Reflecting the sound of her violin and her wordless vocals through a glass of reverb and percussion, she is an island in the river separating the landmasses of formalistic popular and concert music.
